Description
The journey from prairie to National Park has been a long one and this book celebrates the families who ranched in the grasslands and played a major role in making the park a reality.
The Grasslanders captures for the first time the stories of the ranchers, before the park was established, which provide insight into the perilous physical and social conditions they faced over the past 125 years. Their ability to overcome these conditions and steward the land is captured here.
As Parks Canada began to assemble the land that would become Grasslands National Park, staff realized that the stories of the ranchers who first settles here were integral of the new parks legacy.
The publication of these stories celebrates the determination and the vision of those whose efforts helped make Grasslands Nation Park possible. Also, These efforts laid the foundations which enables the Park and current ranchers to jointly conserve this valuable place.
