Prairie Wind & Silver SAge is pleased to partner with Grasslands National Park to aid in conservation efforts to protect Burrowing owls
Juvenile owls are vulnerable to starvation in their first 30 days, especially during rainy weather when their parents struggle to hunt. Since 2016, Parks Canada has implemented an active management program to increase Burrowing Owl nest success. Parks Canada staff provide frozen mice to juvenile owls as supplemental food. While owls continue to hunt their wild prey (crickets, mice, snakes, amphibians), research shows that nests fed extra mice have had better survival than unfed nests.
Prairie Wind and Silver Sage helps by collecting donations for the program. You can make donations on our Canadahelps.org page, available here. Donations over $20 CAD are eligible for a tax receipt.
